The Influence of Iranian Architecture on Our Design Philosophy

As Iranian-American twin architects, our cultural heritage deeply influences our design philosophy. The rich architectural traditions of Iran, from the geometric patterns of Persian gardens to the soaring arches of ancient mosques, continue to shape our creative process and architectural vision.

Our Cultural Foundation

Growing up in a household that celebrated both Iranian and American cultures, we developed a unique perspective on architecture. Our parents' stories about the magnificent architecture of Iran, combined with our experiences in Southern California, created a fusion of influences that defines our work today.

Key Elements of Iranian Architecture

Several key elements of Iranian architecture consistently influence our designs:

  • Geometric Patterns: The intricate geometric patterns found in Persian architecture, known as "girih," inspire our use of repeating patterns and symmetrical designs.
  • Courtyard Design: The traditional Iranian courtyard, or "hayāt," influences our approach to creating communal spaces that connect indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Natural Materials: The use of natural materials like stone, wood, and clay in Iranian architecture guides our material selection process.

Modern Applications

In our recent projects, we've been exploring ways to incorporate these traditional elements into contemporary architecture. For example, in our residential complex project, we used traditional Persian geometric patterns in the facade design while maintaining modern functionality.

Cultural Connection

Our work extends beyond just architectural design. Through our social media presence and children's book, we share our cultural heritage and architectural journey with a wider audience. We believe that understanding our cultural roots helps create more meaningful and authentic designs.

Looking Forward

As we continue to grow as architects, we're excited to explore more ways to blend Iranian architectural traditions with modern design principles. Our upcoming projects will further showcase this fusion of cultures, creating spaces that honor our heritage while meeting contemporary needs.
